About Us

Morocco Collection is a family business created in 2013 with the purpose of bringing authentic Berber rugs direct from rural Morocco to the world. Our collection includes both vintage pieces, which have been carefully selected for their unique beauty and quality, as well as custom designs and contemporary creations.

Based in Taroudant, Morocco, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains in Sous Massa province, our small team of dedicated curators travel extensively around Morocco and beyond Marrakesh souk to find the rarest and most beautiful vintage rugs to add to our collection. We are passionate about preserving traditional practices and supporting local artisans by providing them with an opportunity to share their designs with an international audience with rugs woven using ancestral carding, shearing, and dyeing techniques.  We go above and beyond to ensure each rug has its own unique character, texture and pattern that may never be replicated again.

At Morocco Collection we strive to provide our customers with not only amazing products but also a memorable shopping experience every time they purchase from us. We believe that through purchasing ethically sourced Moroccan rugs we can help preserve traditional practices while providing exquisite handmade artworks to enhance any home décor or style choice.

Our Story

Morocco Collection started in 2013, when founder Behrouz decided to share his passion for the rich culture and vibrant colors of Moroccan rugs. As resident of Morocco since 2003, he has been surrounded by beautiful heirloom Berber rugs and grew to love the craftsmanship and artistry behind each piece. He wanted to bring these one-of-a-kind handwoven pieces to people all over the world.

Behrouz quickly realized that many of the rugs were sourced unethically, with weavers being taken advantage of and not receiving fair wages or acknowledgement for their work. This motivated him to start Morocco Collection, a business dedicated to responsibly sourcing exquisite handmade rugs from rural Morocco. By traveling all over the country, not just the Marrakesh souk, he has been able to find some rarest vintage Moroccan rugs in addition to custom designing his own unique designs.

Since then, Behrouz and Morocco Collection have become experts in authenticating and selling authentic handwoven Berber rugs using ancestral carding, painting, and dyeing techniques — sourcing directly from weavers and women’s cooperatives. Each rug is special — with its own story — which makes them even more valuable as heirlooms for generations to come.

Today, Morocco Collection has grown into a leading international provider of high-quality vintage collection pieces as well as contemporary creations and custom designed pieces –– offering an ethical approach while helping preserve traditional craftsmanship skills.

Quality and Beauty Inspired by Tradition

The process for creating a Berber rug can take several months or even longer, depending on its size and complexity. From selecting sheep wool to spinning it from raw fibers, carding, dying and weaving it by hand, each step requires patience, skill and dedication. The end result is a work of art that will last generations if properly cared for.

For centuries, Berber rugs have been used in homes throughout Morocco to provide warmth and comfort during winter months. They are also a symbol of status – the larger and more intricately designed they are, the higher their value. This cultural significance is why Morocco Collection takes such great pride in collecting vintage pieces from all over Morocco – as well as designing custom ones – carrying on this traditional craftsmanship with modern adaptations.

Craftsmanship that Tells a Story

Each rug manufactured by Morocco Collection tells a story; a story of honor, respect and appreciation for the hundreds-of-years-old craftsmanship that goes into creating these timeless works of art. As such, there’s nothing more important than making sure this tradition continues well into the future so that others may enjoy them for years to come - something that's at the very core of what drives us here at Morocco Collection.

By sourcing directly from weavers and women’s cooperatives across rural Morocco – many of whom come from small villages without access to basic necessities – Morocco Collection helps ensure these craftsmen receive fair compensation for their work while preserving these ancient techniques for future generations to treasure.
